Founded
in 1970, EGV-France is a professional union governed by the
law of 1884. It unites at a national level about 30 regional unions
so regrouping the wine houses of all the important French viticultural
regions: Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne etc.
EGV-France
is, therefore, representative of over 1,400 companies
-
they have a turnover of about 70 billion French francs (or 10
billion Euros),
- nearly half of this comes
from exports,
- they employ roughly 15,000
employees,
- they ship over 35 million
hectolitres of wine, of which the majority is AOC (Appellation d'Origine
Contrôlée).
EGV-France
maintains continual consultation with the French organisations representing
the viticultural concerns. This is in order to modify the political,
economic and administrative decisions in a direction, which encourages
the development of the companies of Great Wines of France.
The
member companies are permanently informed and up-dated about their
problems and the current regulations through the Intranet site "Le
Guide V & S"(the "Wine and Spirit Guide"). Access is limited
to members.
